THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF HEMP
Hemp or Cannabis is an all round amazing plant that has been cultivated for thousands of years. Although hemp seeds do come from a Cannabis plant, they contain no THC so have no mind altering effect.
Hemp seeds are high in plant based protein and omega 3 & 6 fatty acids and have a rich nutritional profile. They make a healthy additional to any meal at any time of the day and can be sprinkled over cereal, salads, veggies and even desserts for an added nutritional boost.
Packed full of antioxidants and high in fibre and unsaturated fats, hemp seeds are a superfood which is why I love to add them to my dishes.
CBD INFUSED COCONUT OIL
I have recently started experimenting with ‘edibles’ and making a vegan friendly infused coconut oil which is perfect for raw vegan treats like these Hemp Balls.
I’m not going to go into the details of how I make my CBD infused coconut oil, as there are plenty of more experienced weed bloggers who will explain this better to you than I can. But if you do choose to turn my Hemp Ball recipe into a more recreational or medicinal treat then all you will need to do is swap the coconut oil for the same amount of coconut oil which has been infused with cannabis.

Description
These raw vegan hemp balls are the idea snack to grab when you have a sweet tooth and want to satisfy your cravings without throwing the diet out of the window! Hemp balls are high in protein, healthy fats and omega-3 fatty acids, iron and magnesium which is why they make such a great snack post workout.
1 Cup Cashew nuts
1/2 Cup Hemp Seeds
1 Tbsp Maca Powder
1/2 Cup Desiccated coconut
1/4 Cup Rolled oats
3 Tbsp Almond Butter
6 Medjool dates soaked in warm water for 10mins
100g coconut oil
1/2 cup extra hemp seeds to roll the balls in
- Pre soak the medjool dates in warm water for approximately 10-15 minutes and remove the stone. Your medjool dates need to be soft and able to be blended without clumping together. Set aside.
- Place the cashew nuts, hemp seeds, maca powder, oats and desiccated coconut into a food processor and blend until you get a breadcrumb like consistency.
- Drain the medjool dates, reserving the water. Add the almond butter, medjool dates and coconut oil and blend until combined. The mixture should look moist and sticky, with no dry bits. If the mixture looks a little dry, add some of the reserved date water into the mix 1 tbsp at a time. If you add too much water and the mixture looks too wet, simply add some more rolled oats a little at a time.
- Scoop the mixture out of a processor using a table spoon and roll the balls into the desired size. Place around 1/4 cup of hemp seeds into a medium sized bowl and then roll each ball into the hemp seeds. Place on some grease proof paper and store in the refrigerator for up to one week or freezer for uptown three months.
Notes
- These hemp balls can be rolled in Hemp hearts for a crunchy and textured outer coating or raw cacao powder, desiccated coconut or crushed nuts depending on what you fancy. But if you are feeling extra indulgent then you can also roll them in some melted chocolate and then pop them in the fridge to set.
- Can be made with CBD infused coconut oil
