  • They can be used to flavour food
  • Is Gluten-free
  • A Simple Classic recipe

I used a mixture of red and brown onions for my recipe as this is what I had available at the time. The red onions tend to have a slightly tougher texture than the brown onions which I find are slightly sweeter. You can use whatever colour you like for this recipe.

You can also use butter or dairy-free butter for this recipe but today I am using olive oil which also works well

My Tips for making Tasty ?Caramelised Onions

  • Turn down the heat – You don’t want to rush the cooking process as you risk the onions from burning and sticking to the pan, so turn the heat down low
  • Be patient – It takes time to make these caramelised onions but the end result is definitely worth it
  • If you don’t want to use sugar, you don’t have to. You can use vegan butter instead as the caramelised onions will caramelise themselves with the balsamic vinegar. I add a little sugar to mine for extra sweetness.
  • I usually cook up around 3-4 onions at a time as there is too much work involved if you are doing just the one onion and we regularly use Caramelised Onions in our household

Caramelised Onions are perfect to cook up in a big batch and store in jars ready for when you may next need them and will keep for around about 2-3 weeks.

Here is my step by step?how easy it is to make mouthwatering Recipe;

  1. I start by peeling my onions and then thinly slicing them lengthways. My eyes are really sensitive to raw onions so I always use ski goggles lol There’s a funny image for you.
  2. I then heat the oil in the pan and stir the onions into the oil and add in a pinch of salt which helps draw out the moisture of the onions… It may look like there are too many onions to start with but they do shrink down to almost half the size once they are ready.
  3. I then add in the balsamic vinegar which has a beautifully rich dark colour and it helps the onions caramelise with the sugar which I add next.
  4. Don’t rush the cooking process, it should take around 35 minutes for your Caramelised onions to be ready as you don’t want them to burn so keep the frying pan on low heat, stirring often.
  5. when the Caramelised Onions?are ready they should darken and turn a brownish colour and be sweet to taste.

Maybe converting too ;) Generally being responsible, fun loving and positive. It's also about transparency, being honest, genuine, authentic and true.

But when shit goes down and it's downright wrong. When craft beer and everything that makes it great is co-opted by Global entities in the name of trying to still look relevant and trying to be hip, I always believe in calling BS out, telling it like it is, holding things to account and boycotting. Especially when it comes to jackin' brands of non-willing participants in greasy Megacorporate schemes. It creates division too. It's not cool.
No control/no monitoring/no accountability. Honestly, it upsets me.

I will always be honest and true, especially when the evidence is there.

Cheers !
